Welcome to One Thousand Faces.
My goal is to publish 1000 faces here. I don't have a time framework I'm committing to although it would be nice if it was completed within three years.
I'm not sure where this will lead me and what form the site will take over time. But let's see.
My interest in photography started more than 40 years ago when my dad gave me a 120 format camera - the brand of which I can no longer remember. A few years later, in 1975, I purchased my first 35mm camera – a Pentax SP1000 and a Tamron 80-210 zoom lens. After taking, and developing 1000s of frames during the 70s and 80s, photography sadly fell into the background for a while. The Tamron lens doesn't work any more but I had the Pentax serviced about three years ago and have slowly started taking photos again since then. Last year I bought a 135mm Super Takumur lens on ebay as well as a K1000. I haven't got any lenses for the K1000 yet so I haven't used it yet.
More recently I have come to have access to a Nikon D60. I think I am going to need a good digital camera for many of the shots I want to include here.
I started seriously taking photos for this project in 2006 although I expect my archives will also be a rich source of images for this site. One of my favourite genres is candid portraiture and I have some fantastic shots of some of the students I tought in the late 70s. However, because of my relationship with the subjects at the time, I can't use them here without permission.
I'm sure I will change what appears on this about page lots of times over the next few months. I'd be interested to know what you would like to know about One Thousand Faces. But for now, that's all I've got to say.
I love to hear from you. Please comment on any photos you are interested in. Of course you can always email me.
best,
Chris Curnow
